The infrastructure on many points of the Kollam coast
suffered damages. Sea wall to a stretch of 16.87 Km. and the harbours
of Sakthikulangara and Neendakara were damaged. The sectors of Agriculture,
Fisheries, Animal husbandry and Industries suffered damages. Schools,
Anganwadis, Roads, culverts, drains, PHCs, medical centers, water supply
systems, electricity lines, telephone exchange etc. have also suffered
heavy damages.
Boats, Webbings, Out Board Machines, In Board Machines, other fishing
equipments etc. have also been damaged, thus affecting the livelihood
of fishermen families. Shops, vehicles and household articles inside the
damaged houses also have suffered damages.
Based on the directions of the State Government, the District Administration
has conducted an Adalat with the participation of all the service departments
of government to receive applications from the Tsunami victims regarding
loss of various certificates, documents etc., at a single venue. On receipt
of the applications, the respective departments scrutinized the same,
verified with their existing records and issued duplicate certificates/documents.
As regards damaged houses, the district administration has arranged survey
teams consisting of Revenue & Panchayat officials and engineers to
identify the Fully Damaged and Partially damaged houses so as to prepare
the eligible list of beneficiaries for sanctioning New Permanent Houses
as well as for financial assistance for the repair and maintenance of
Partially Damaged houses.
