About Thematic Atlas
Thematic atlas composition is done as a part of exercise of National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI) for India.
It is an initiative undertaken jointly by Department of Science and Technology and Department of Space. NSDI for India is aimed at encouraging collection, aggregation and distribution of spatial data on different themes on a common defined set of standards and formats by different mapping agencies in India. NSDI is working to establish the infrastructure at community, local, state, regional and national levels to serve meta data .
Thematic atlas is to Incorporating comprehensive view of inter-sectoral needs for planning. Thematic Maps have spatial, sectoral, demographical layers.
The Spatial layers contains maps such as Towns, forests, railways, soil, roads, basin, airport, catchment, sub catchment.
The Sectoral layers consists of various categories such as Education(13 layers), Medical(24 layers), Communication(6 layers), Bank(8 layers), Recreation(6 layers), Water (14 layers), Finance (2 layers), Transport (8 layers), Approach to village (6 layers), Power (5 layers), Land Use & Irrigation(15 Layers).
The Demographic layers contains Total Population ( Male/ Female/ SC/ST), Population literates/ illiterates, Sex ratio etc.,(18 Layers)
Data Source is got from Census of India - Census 2001, Map Source is from Survey of India. Totally 133 base maps on various themes have been compiled by National Informatics Centre, Kerala.
